Two years ago after my grandmother passed away a friend of mine introduced me to crystals. She told me it would help me in my time of grief and mind you it did. I was in the perfect place at the time too, South Africa. Went to holistic fairs, went to the crystal mines and that was the beginning of a whole new chapter in my life. I lost a love but in the process gained another, jewelry making! I've grown so much since then, when I see the things I did before I die laughing. Not finding time to take any classes, I've had to learn all these on my own. With a little help from youtube and a few books I think I'm doing pretty ok. Now I'm ready to share it with the world. Couple years ago I made a sketch of what I wanted my logo to be, and one of my close friends Jermain was able to take it from paper to computer. I remember our conversation talking about it being the first draft and make a few more fine tuning and it would be perfect but I thought it was from the very first draft so nothing changed. Finally did all the paperwork to have it protected (trademark) so I can share it with the world. Hopefully it's just the beginning of more wonderful things to come. Well believe it or not is is a post christmas post *hides face*

I had one of my best christmases ever!! I had a toy giveaway in my hometown in St. Lucia!!!!!!!!!

It's something I always wanted to do and happy to have done it. I thought the best part of it was doing the shopping but was I wrong. Seeing the look on these children face was the best thing I could have asked for that christmas. My friends came out to help and I swear I could not h

As the saying goes: Nothing happens before it's time

Not really looking for excuses for lack of updates, it's just that sometimes I don't really know what to post. Even though this is an "online" diary. I'm still very picky with what I choose to put for the whole world to see. Anyway, I've finally started updating my website. www.malabryan.com . I'm doing it all by myself so no jokes please. The past year for me has been a rough one. I lost my grandma, one of my best friends with whom I shared lots of precious moments with. I was so happy to spend time with her during her final moments even when she could not speak. I laid next to her, played with her hair, sang to her and demanded kisses. She was a diabetic and got her first leg amputated, which she seemed to be able to handle just fine. She told me lots of things from her past, I read old letters and she remembered all of them when they arrived. Some were filled with juicy gossip, some family drama and I loved every minute of it. I also opened up to her about a lot of things that was happening in my life and it felt so good being so close to her. Then her second leg got amputated and I saw that she gave up on life itself. Two months later and she was gone. Even after a year it is still very emotional for me to write this post. After her burial I went to South Africa and got all into crystals and crystal therapy which helped a lot. I also got into beading while there because I find crafting very therapeutic. I will post some of my pieces for you guys to see. I know some of you have been stopping by to look out for new stuff so I ask for you to forgive my lack of postings. I will make up for it . . . I promise. Thanks for sticking with me also join the fan page on facebook.

Shoot for Ray Ban during the Winter Music Conference. Did a shoot at Space Night club or I should say Dawn club because that's when things really get crazy there. It was fun, I don't look too bad for a shoot that took place at 5 am with a 12 am call time.

Feeling the pressure to be even thinner all around. Going to the castings and see all the castings directors admiring the extremely thin. I look around and observe. Is she smaller than me? I wonder what diet she's on. But I don't think I really want my bones sticking out like that. Is that really what it takes? I look down and my boobs are staring me in the face, I love them but right now I have lots of doubt. Then I start to hate myself for thinking that way. I go home and I'm starving, so many castings I had no time to stop and eat. Maybe that was the trick, but now I am done with my day I can think of nothing else but food. Should I? I don't think so, I hop on the scale and I think I gained a pound, hmmm... maybe not. I guess I should go to bed since I'm so exhausted and weigh myself again in the morning. First thing in the morning I try my best to drink 4 glasses of water, I read somewhere that it is the best thing to do when you wake up (helps cleanse your colon), then I use the bathroom and head over to the scale, much better it was just waste. I go to my room and measure myself, nothing changed but I feel better. Then back for another round of castings, I observe. Is there a reason why so many of them look like young boys? Maybe it's the new thing, oh well I'll try to push my butt forward so I don't look like I have anything back there. Here we go again, stop it; you're beautiful I say but I'm not convinced. Oh my, do you see how thin she is?? Is that really what I want to look like? Everyone tells me how skinny I got but I don't see it, I don't see how I can be since I eat like a pig. But I guess I do see it sometimes. So then why do I still think I need to go down some more? But then I realize, I'm the tallest one there maybe that has something to do with it. Walking to my next casting and I think I felt my thighs rub against each other. I look down but it does not seem possible, I am out of my mind now. Oh my, will God punish me for now appreciating the body that he's blessed me with? Why do I feel like it needs to be accepted by everyone? I don't know. I've got curves, so what? Still a size 2, which should be something special right? I'll go home, look myself in the mirror and smile for a few minutes. Tell myself how much I love me. But I'm afraid, what would happen if I couldn’t say I love you back. I'm here sitting on a train writing this, on the verge of tears. Maybe it's all part of the game. But I love doing shows, when I'm out there I feel like I'm in a world that was meant for me. But I just can't be an anorexic. Can't always have it all now can we???

Can't believe a whole year has past since my visit to Cape Town. I'll share with you some of my editorial pics from there and runway looks from Jo'burg and Cape Town Fashion Week. I headed down there to work on my book and was very happy with the results. Love my agency Max Models for pulling through and getting me some amazing bookings. It's so important to be able to build your book and cover expenses (It's not free!!!). I went over there off season from June - August and did really well. Season there is usually around December - April, but I heard it gets very crowded so I was very happy with my decision. My favorite booking from there was for Brazilian Vogue. LOVED IT!!!

Capri pants saved me. I went from a tall woman on a perpetual mission for pants with long legs to a woman with options everywhere! And if I wear my high-water pants, no one knows, I'm fashionable now, I'll never really blend in with my height, but at least now it's not because of bad fashion. One of the most tacky no-no's is having the wrong shape, height and fit of your pants. For both men and women, pants have defined entire decades. My new favorite spot is The Florida Room at The Delano. Love the atmosphere and the crowd is pretty amazing. So the Winter Music Conference is finally over (like a week...kiki) and though I am not a huge fan of house music but I did end up at some pretty interesting places. Went to SET where Steve Aoki was spinning it was quite entertaining to watch. Waited for the bottles to come round then I left after 15 minutes.

So next week the beach will be swarming with lots of events. With Funkshion and the Winter Music Conference I think it is one of the best times to be on South Beach. Although things such as hotels and parking is much more expensive, once that's taken care of it's fun, fun, fun. I won't be doing too much partying ( hate smelling like cigarettes when I get home) but I will socialize a bit.

THE BOOK!!

Building my book is still an ongoing process. It has been my main focus for the past 2 years. Doing catalogues were great for making money but then my book got neglected. So I dedicated the past 2 years updating it by doing editorials (tearsheets) and few tests to update it so now I feel refreshed and ready to go on again. Every one of my agencies have different ideas for what my book should look like for their market. Me, I have my own ideas, the hardest part of this I think is having different pictures from different publications, putting them together so that there is a nice flow to it. I share with you now my idea of MY BOOK! In my actual portfolio I have less pictures since space is limited. But online, that would be my ideal book.

Some pics are missing, I need to scan them so I will update as soon as I get that done.

Jacobs Coffee

Just got back from doing an amazing show in Berlin (more on that later) and some of the models told me that they saw my TVC for Jacobs Coffee that I shot for last year in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. I actually received the print shot for it a few days ago, but I have not seen the commercial yet. As soon as I get a copy I will post it up, I'm sharing with you now the print shot and a few behind the scenes shots.

I love testing. It's usually a great way to update your book(portfolio), stay in great posing shape and sometimes add images/looks in your book that you longed for, or sometimes entering a new market models would have to get new photos suitable for that market. Beginning models normally their portfolio with a few good tests. There are times when you would have to pay for a good test, one might set your off about $350-$500. Lots of times it will get done for free, that's usually when photographers/photographer assistants/stylists/makeup artist get ideas to build up their own books choose certain models for that. Every now and then I will feature a few of my wonderful tests for you to enjoy and the photographers and styling team that made it all possible. Here I featured a test from photographer Rick Day. TIP: It is always a good idea to let your agency know if you're thinking about testing or if there is someone interested in testing you. Nowadays, it is a really good idea knowing the right people are taking your photos. If you're a beginner model and don't have an agency, don't be afraid to ask to see the person's book. You definitely have a right to know who you're dealing with.

Party Post: Being a model we have access to some of the best parties wherever we are. I think it would be nice to share an event or two with you.

Featured Homie : I'd like to feature some of my amazing model friends on here. Some of the most amazing work you've probably seen and did not know who the model was, in your favorite magazines, catalogs etc. Now you will get to know some of my friends.

Featured Roomie : Getting to a new market, you'll most likely stay at the model's apartment have roommates. (Unless you're lucky to be able to have some place to stay with family or good friends). I'd like to show off some of crazy, sexy, beautiful people that I've had the pleasure to be housed with.

So I have been trying to get to update my blog but things have just been crazy busy. I spent the last two weeks in London, where I was invited over by the Quintessentially Models team for the launching of the agency. I had a wonderful time and loved my stay there. Sorry no pics from there, I am really bad with that but next time I'll make an effort. I will tell you more about my wonderful new agency in my next post and maybe a bit of what I've learnt about the London market. Stay tuned

Not your typical model's diet

Did a water therapy today (Water therapy includes drinking 1.25 litres approximately 4 glasses of water as soon as you wake up in the morning). Had a yogurt, 2 pieces of the laughing cow cheese and a probiotics drink at 5 pm. Been drinking water all day so not feeling too light headed. Not my normal diet just did not really feel for breakfast today.
